What is a Scale Scanning Sequencer?

• Sarn Elen 2 loads a musical scale
• Sarn Elen 2's clock counts around the steps of the 'euclidean' circle
• When the count  encounters a 'hit' on the circle, a trigger is sent to the scale scanner
• These triggers step through the intervals of the scale
• For the Harmonic Minor that would be notes 0, 2, 3, 5 ,7, 8 and 11 of an Octave
• Sarn Elen 2's triggers can skip through the scale in increments of 1, 2, 3 or 4 notes
• So for harmonic minor in 3s that would be 0, 5, 11, 3, 8, 2, 7  and back to 0 again

What is a 'Euclidean' Sequencer?

• Euclid's algorithm calculates the Greatest Common Divisor of 2 integers
• In electronic music it is used to fill a number of empty steps (#Steps) with events (#Hits)
• Sarn Elen 2's 'Euclidean' section controls a gate which allows notes to pass to the output
• All controls are MIDI mappable and automatable - no more drawing in notes
